Chester County Schools Participate in International Walk to School Day

East Whiteland, PA - International Walk to School Day is a fun way to celebrate walking to school, exercise, and to educate safe walking habits for children.  This year, TMACC partnered with the Chester County District Attorney’s Office, Safe Kids Chester County, and the Chester County Health Department to help two Chester County elementary schools host the event.

West Vincent Elementary School and St. Patrick School of Malvern both participated on Walk to School Day on October 5th for the third year in a row.  In total, they had over 300 students participate in the walk.

“It’s always fun to gather the students and their parents to participate in Walk to School Day,” said West Vincent Elementary Principal Ed Smith. “It gives the students time before school to catch up with friends and enjoy some exercise.  We always look forward to celebrating the day.”

The Transportation Management Association of Chester County (TMACC), who organizes the event in Chester County each year thinks it’s a great way to show students there is a healthier and fun option to traveling that doesn’t include using a car.

“Walking to school promotes a car-free lifestyle,” said Executive Director P. Timothy Phelps of TMACC. “We want to raise these children on new, healthier habits than what we are teaching them now, and that is to drive everywhere even if your destination is close.  We’re hoping Walk to School Day encourages at least one child’s view on walking as a form of transportation.”

TMACC thanks Citadel for sponsoring Walk to School Day.
