West Chester, PA—The Transportation Management Association of Chester County (TMACC) is excited to participate in the 10th Annual Iron Hill Twilight Criterium on August 2nd in West Chester.
The Iron Hill Twilight Criterium, hosted by the Greater West Chester Chamber of Commerce, is a great event where thousands of spectators come to watch professional cyclists race this unique 0.6-mile course over 8 city blocks on the streets of historic downtown West Chester, Pennsylvania. This crit features four 90 degree turns, a long back straight away, and a challenging tight finish.
TMACC is proud to see how the Criterium has matured over the years, especially Executive Director, P. Timothy Phelps, who is the former President of the Greater West Chester Chamber of Commerce and one of the event creators. “The Crit brings out a great crowd to West Chester each year. When we first established the event, we knew it had potential, but it’s amazing how much it has grown. It is a fantastic way to educate and show the public how fun bicycling can be.”
Phelps went on to praise Iron Hill Restaurant and Brewery for continuing to support the Criterium throughout the years, “Iron Hill has been a great community partner with their 10 year sponsorship of the event. We could not have gotten here without them.”
TMACC advocates for transportation initiatives that promote using alternative modes of transportation like bicycling and public transportation. The Iron Hill Twilight Criterium demonstrates that bicycling is a great way to travel around Chester County for all age groups.
Mark J. Yoder, current President of the Chamber, could not be more excited for this year’s festivities. “We have so many free family-friendly activities going on this year. It’s not just a bike race, but an all-day party with something for the whole family.”
Various activities throughout the day include, the Kinectic Physical Therapy Community Festival and the Market Street Block Party, Maxxis BMX Stunt Team, and the Twilight Trike Challenge where groups race down Gay Street on tricycles. The events start at 8:00 AM and concludes with the Iron Hill Twilight Criterium at 7:45 PM. Additional Criteriums before the big race are the Rothman’s Institute Amatuer Men’s Criterium and the Avante Salon Pro Women’s Criterium.
